Restoring industrial history at Summerlee Museum
The Summerlee Museum of Industrial Life, located in Coatbridge just outside Glasgow, is home to a remarkable collection of industrial artefacts. Several large engineering exhibits required expert restoration to bring them back to their former glory. The challenge was to carefully remove layers of corrosion and old paint coatings while preserving the historic integrity of these important pieces.
A mobile solution for corrosion removal
For this delicate task, the Quill Falcon Cyclone 60 Trailer was selected. Its design combines a compressor, blast pot and water tank all mounted on a trailer, allowing easy movement between exhibits. The mobility of the coating removal equipment meant museum staff could carry out the restoration work with ease.
Transforming historic machinery
One highlight of the project was restoring a turning machine, dating back to 1897. Using the Quill Falcon Cyclone 60 Trailer, layers of old corrosion and paint were efficiently removed, enabling restoration work to commence.
Supporting heritage conservation with modern technology
This project at the Summerlee Museum showcases how precision coating removal equipment like the Quill Falcon Cyclone provides an effective solution for restoring industrial heritage by combining mobility, efficiency and precision.
